Cal on the Board

Vince D’Amato hits the 21-yard field goal to make the score Stanford 14, Cal 3. The Bears are probably disappointed that they didn’t get into the end zone on that drive. They got it down to the Cardinal’s two-yard line, then ran two direct snap keepers to Shane Vereen out of the wildcat that netted a loss of two yards. Kevin Riley threw an out-fade for Marvin Jones in the end zone that was knocked away on third down.

Not sure why D’Amato is handling field goals and not Tavecchio. Tavecchio was Pac-10 Special Teams Player of the Week last weekend. Tedford, though, always evaluates position battles throughout the week. Against Arizona State, he left that field-goal-kicking decision to 15 minutes before kickoff. D’Amato must have had a good week, or Tavecchio a bad one.
