Thousands of Layoffs at U.S. and Foreign Companies

The New York Times reported that today alone, companies around the world cut 65,000 jobs.  As of last month, the U.S. has an unemployment rate of 7.2 percent, and the over the last year 2.59 million jobs have been lost. 

Obama Begins Reversal of Bush Administration’s Energy Policies

President Barack Obama announced his intention to tighten carbon emissions regulations and reform environmental policy, according to The Washington Post. He said that, although it would not happen quickly, the United States needed to become less dependent on foreign oil.

Former Illinois Governor Blagojevich Argues his Case on Air

The Washington Post reported that Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich appeared on “Good Morning America” as his impeachment case moves forward in the Illinois Senate. No one was present to represent him at the trial and he did not enter a plea because he is boycotting the proceedings.
