Code Pink’s Tax Day Protest

While most citizens were rushing to the post office to file their taxes on time, members of Code Pink spent the afternoon voicing their opposition to tax money used to fund the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Code Pink still protests in front of the Marine Recruitment Center in Downtown Berkeley practically every Wednesday, but the group held a special Tax Day Protest yesterday (video after the jump):
The focus, however, was not to protest paying taxes. Instead, members aimed to call attention to where the tax dollars are going and what taxpayers can do to prevent the funding of the war.
Code Pink organizer Zanne Joi said the tax-paying citizens do not realize their indirect contribution to the war effort.
“The most obvious (parties responsible are) the President and Congress,” Joi said. “But the last entity is us, the taxpayer. If we refuse to pay for the war, they wouldn’t have the money to fund the war.”
Marine Sgt. Matt DeBoard said he respects Code Pink’s right to protest.
“They are American citizens and they have a right to protest,” DeBoard said.
World War II veteran Jim Weber joins Code Pink every week for more than just good company.
“I don’t believe in war and it saddens me that so many people come back dead or crippled,” Weber said. “I am sad that Obama is following in Bush’s footsteps and not really ending the war.”

At first I thought Code Pink was amusing, but now I realize they are a joke that have gone on too long, without a punch line. Now I just think- why don’t these women have jobs or a life?
They would be better off making meals at the men’s shelter or picking up trash in Berkeley if they were really interested in giving back to society

Code Pink speaks for me. They have shown great courage and dedication. They are among our most honorable citizens. If I were president I’d give a medal to all these brave women and all the veterans that support Code Pink and oppose US Militarism.
Code Pink is a strong voice for peace in this world, what better job could anyone have?
