Almost Everything You Need to Know About Golf
M. golf March 18th. 2008, 9:52pmWelcome to the first men’s golf blog entry of the spring!
I understand that golf isn’t exactly the most spectator-friendly sport. The whole standing up for ten hours while never raising your voice above a library-acceptable whisper deal somehow doesn’t have the same appeal as a football game. Plus, there are no cool cheers…although I am trying to remedy that. Email me if you think of something sweet that rhymes with Gandranata.
In the spirit of trying to make Cal golf more entertaining and accessible for you, the fans, I’m going to be using this blog as a forum to tell you all about the subtleties of the game and those fun little details about the team.
A few things that you may not have known about the Cal men’s golf…
· They won the National Championship four years ago, a full 45 years more recently than the last time the football team went to the Rose Bowl. Score one for men’s golf.
· Freshman Stephen Hale posted the top score (201) in Cal men’s golf history two weeks ago at the John Burns Invitational in Oahu, Hawaii. He was also a finalist for Pac-10 Golfer of the Month for the month of February.
· Senior Brandon Beck’s best Halloween costume was a giant banana.
And, most importantly, the golf team guys are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. If there’s a team on this campus you can really
support, men’s golf is it.
I hope you’ll stay tuned with me in the coming months with the Pac-10 Championships and NCAA Regionals on the horizon. Until then, keep checking back here for the stuff that doesn’t make the morning paper!
