Cal Rugby Team > Wilt Chamberlain
rugby April 19th. 2008, 5:24pmThe Cal rugby team has a history of winning, and winning big. But Friday’s annihilating of Tennessee in the first round of the national playoffs was something else.
The Bears cracked the century mark, beating the Volunteers by a score of 102-3. And that was with the reserves.
The team’s run at a fifth consecutive national championship continues today at 3:30 in Albuquerquer, N.M. Cal will face off against Cal Poly, which defeated Army in the Round of 16.
There was only one upset in the first round, with 11th-seeded Colorado edging sixth-seeded Utah. If the Bears get past the Mustangs in the Round of 8 (which they should, easily), they’ll face the winner of a match between Saint Mary’s and Kutztown.
Cal thumped the Gaels earlier this season, but the latter’s 22 points was the second highest total of any opponent.
I guess April Drive worked. Best wishes, Cal Poly!
