After P. Chris opened the game with two missed threes, he started the second half with a three and then stole the ball and had a nice give and go from Jorge for the Slamma-Jamma.
Nine in a row for the Bears to start it off, and the Dolphins’ shooting woes continue. Jorge and P. Chris are still working on their timing for the alley-oop — both tries have been short or off the mark, and Christopher has only been able to convert one into a difficult lay-up.
Jacksonville cannot get back on defense and the Bears keep running it down the court and getting easy looks, 48-21 Cal with 16 to go.
Dolphin Ben Smith just knocked down his third three of the night to put the game at 50-24 Cal with 15:33 left. Jacksonville is still shooting a horrendous 26.3 percent from the floor.
A little kid behind press row just yelled at the Cal team to follow their shots. He’s right, they’re not.
MAX ZHANG SPINS OFF A DEFENDER FOR A DUNK!!! HAAS ERUPTS!! He is the most electrifying player ever, or at least that’s how it sounds here.
Christopher knocks down his fourth three of the half for his 23rd point of the game. That’s 16 already this half and still 11:14 to go, Cal 61-31. Out of the timeout, Christopher gets a break and in comes Knezevic.
Side note: The band just played the song from the 2008 Cal football commercial — you know, the epic gladiator type music — well, I think it was that song. I could be misguided, which I usually am, but I now have the video playing in my head with the music from the band. Either way, it added drama to a timeout during a 30 point blowout, which is a feat in and of itself.
MSF just made a powerful post move, hooking his defender and moving across the key with a powerful dribble and gathering himself before he laid it up on the opposite side.
After a good bit of passing from the Bears in the half court set, Zhang misses a hook from a few feet away and sighs fill the pavilion. Cal 72- 42 4:23 left. And Zhang misses another turnaround jumper from a few feet away. More sighs. But comes back on the other end and gets the block but is called for a foul. Rally Comm still manages to celebrate it. Zhang misses his third in a row, then gets called for touching the ball while it’s inside the cylinder on the Omondi Amoke put back. And gets a blocking foul on the other end. A tough minute for Max and his thousands of supporters.
Amoke has been extremely efficient in getting to 15 points. 5-5 from the line, and 5 of 7 from the floor with about 2 minutes left. This means one of two things: he can score or he can score only against bad teams. One thing is for certain, their going to need him to score without Theo.
Bak had a nice block down low, which woke the crowd up a bit.
Ball game. 79-47 Cal.
